WARNING TO ALL DOMAIN NAME OWNERS!

Beware of dodgy domain renewal operators like Domain Register or Domain Services!

If you have received a letter or email from Domain Register or Domain Services you are more than likely being scammed.

Domain Register and Domain Services are trying to trick you into renewing your domain name for hugely exaggerated price with them rather than the company that you have actually got your domain name registered with.

Domain Register and Domain Services will charge you at least 3 or 4 times the price you'll pay anywhere else and the letter will look very official.

Their letters and emails usually include some special offer or 'free' gift. They are not free, they aren't a bonus, they don't justify the unbelievable increase in domain name costs that they bill you for.

The last letter I received was for $249.95 for a .com.au for 2 years. I can register the same domain name for $66 using my own registration service or even less using some others (I'm not sure that the cheaper ones offer the same level of prompt, friendly and efficient service as we do :) ).

Companies like Domain Register and Domain Services take your name, address and other personal information from the domain registries and then use it to try to scam you.

If you fall for their scam the end result is your domain name is transferred out of your chosen domain registry to the spammers domain registry and you are charged up to 5 times more than you should be.

The letter or email telling you that your domain name needs registering will look very official and is easy to mistake for the real thing, unfortunately they catch many unsuspecting business owners who end up transferring their domain name to these unscrupulous companies without realising what they are doing.

Always check with the company you have your domain name registered with if you receive a suspicious looking letter or email from Domain Register and Domain Services.
